Blessed are the Merciful

In Matthew 5:7, Jesus says “blessed are the merciful.” What does it mean to be merciful? Mercy is certainly compassion on someone in their distress, but it doesn’t stop there. Mercy is compassion coupled with action to alleviate someone’s distress. It’s not enough to feel compassion for someone’s situation and not do anything about it. Compassion + action = mercy.
